HEADS UP!! Red Bandit




Dragon 1/72nd scale Jian Ji5 (Chinese built MiG-17 Fresco) 





 This model depicts a Shenyang F-5 of the 923rd Fighter Regiment of the Vietnamese Peoples' Air Force in late 1965 as piloted by Ngo Duc Mia. He was credited with at least 3 confirmed kills. 

For this model, I finished it in Alclad lacquers and used the Eagle Strike decal sheet EP72066, "MiG-17 Fresco". This sheet was produced after Squadron Products bought  the "Eagle Strike"  decal line. 







 Here's the 2 principles of the air war in South East Asia. This is a good relative size comparison of the antagonists. 



Trivia fun: The Mig-17 weighed less in this 2 tank configuration than the internal fuel load of the F-4. One's a rapier, and the other 's a battle axe!

  Fujimi 1/72 scale F-4E Phantom II This is the F-4E (non slat wing) Fujimi kit built as F-4E-35-MC 67-308 of the 469th TFS/ 388th TFW in SEA camo scheme. Miss Betty Lou, here, was the mount of Wing Commander Col. A.K. MacDonald sporting the tail code: JV-308 circa 1969. The load out with fuse extenders & rocket pods is clearly for a close-air support or battlefield interdiction sortie. The Hasegawa weapons set I provided the "world of hurt" soon to come. (I'm sure you can think of more Vietnam era clichés). The decals are from the ancient Microscale sheet 72-112 USAF Vietnam Phantoms. Decals for AIM-7s are from the Hasegawa weapons set III. F-4D Phantom II with LASER guided bombs

This Model depicts the F-4D Phantom II, number 69-7709 of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing stationed at Ubon Royal Thai AFB supporting the "Operation Linebacker" in May 1972. This aircraft led the first successful laser guided Bomb attack of the Linebacker campaign. The kit is the  Fujimi F-4D with the laser guided bombs, AN/ALQ-87 ECM pods and Pave Knife laser designator from the Hasegawa Weapons kits, and the decals came from Wolfpak decal sheet 72-015.   The kit was painted with Testors Model-Master enamels and weather with chalk pastels. I thot I thaw A TWEETY BOID!

Academy 1/72nd scale A-37B Dragonfly This is the 1/72nd scale A-37B Dragonfly Academy kit built as A-37B 87916 of the 516th FS/ 41st FW/ 1st Air Division of the Republic of Vietnam Air force (RVAF). This plane was based at Da Nang air base circa 1970. The load out depicted here was typical for a close-air support sorties. The 500 pound Mk-82 bombs came with kit & the Hasegawa weapons set I provided the 250 pound Mk-81 bombs on the outboard pylons. The decals are from the Albatros Modelworks sheet 72-007 "FEROCIOUS BUGS". For the SEA Camouflage scheme, I used Testors Model Masters enamel paints & Testors flat colors that come in the 1/4 oz bottles.  Here’s the color mixes: * Camo gray was a half & half mix MM Camo gray (FS36622) & flat white. * The medium green (FS34102)  was a mix of  MM Med Green with some flat yellow & 10% camo grey to lighten it to contrast better with the dark green. * The dark green (FS34079) was the MM dk green
