The EC-121R Super Constellation


This Model depicts the EC-121R, number: 67-21473 stationed at Korat Royal Thai AFB supporting the "Operation Igloo White" circa 1971. This model is the Heller Warning Star kit modified to the EC-121R configuration by adding the various ECM, HF, VHF, and UHF antennas and deleting the top and bottom radomes.   The flaps, flap wells and tires are resin parts from Fisher Models. The kit was painted with Testors Model-Master enamels and weather with chalk pastels. The figure, maintenance stand and fire extinguisher came from Hasegawa accessory kits.

 

 




The base display consists of a medium size poster frame, a plotter print of the surveyor's  plat of Korat RAFB, a patch for the 553rd Reconnaissance Wing, a USAF period patch, USAF pilot wings and a placard.

  Fujimi 1/72 scale F-4E Phantom II This is the F-4E (non slat wing) Fujimi kit built as F-4E-35-MC 67-308 of the 469th TFS/ 388th TFW in SEA camo scheme. Miss Betty Lou, here, was the mount of Wing Commander Col. A.K. MacDonald sporting the tail code: JV-308 circa 1969. The load out with fuse extenders & rocket pods is clearly for a close-air support or battlefield interdiction sortie. The Hasegawa weapons set I provided the "world of hurt" soon to come. (I'm sure you can think of more Vietnam era clichés). The decals are from the ancient Microscale sheet 72-112 USAF Vietnam Phantoms. Decals for AIM-7s are from the Hasegawa weapons set III. F-4D Phantom II with LASER guided bombs

This Model depicts the F-4D Phantom II, number 69-7709 of the 8th Tactical Fighter Wing stationed at Ubon Royal Thai AFB supporting the "Operation Linebacker" in May 1972. This aircraft led the first successful laser guided Bomb attack of the Linebacker campaign. The kit is the  Fujimi F-4D with the laser guided bombs, AN/ALQ-87 ECM pods and Pave Knife laser designator from the Hasegawa Weapons kits, and the decals came from Wolfpak decal sheet 72-015.   The kit was painted with Testors Model-Master enamels and weather with chalk pastels. Operation Igloo White with Batcat prowling the skies! FINAL SITREP 2 JUN 18

Operation Igloo White Igloo White was a covert United States joint military electronic warfare operation conducted from late January 1968 until February 1973, during the Vietnam War. These missions were carried out by the 553d Reconnaissance Wing, a U.S. Air Force unit flying modified EC-121R Warning Star aircraft, and VO-67, a specialized U.S. Navy unit flying highly modified OP-2E Neptune aircraft. This state-of-the-art operation utilized electronic sensors, computers, and communications relay aircraft in an attempt to automate intelligence collection. The system would then assist in the direction of strike aircraft to their targets.
